In the Wheel of… Liv Wenzel - Crosswoman at SebMotoBikes CX Team

The 2023/24 cyclo-cross season has officially ended for our partner, the SebMotoBikes CX Team. The perfect opportunity to look back on some key moments of winter. Today we take the wheel of the young Luxembourger Liv Wenzel! A rise in power over the weeks until her title of U23 national champion and her top 20 at the world championships in the same category.

Regardless of the discipline, our partners have talent. Like Théo Thomas , his teammate, the athlete of the day is multidisciplinary. Liv Wenzel, 20 years old, practicing under the colors of the continental Hess Cycling team on the road during sunny days and winter under the Leader of the SebMotoBikes CX Team jersey! And in this game, she still has a preference for the undergrowth:

“I consider that the two disciplines are very complementary. On the one hand, you need a good season on the road and good preparation to be able to perform well in cyclocross. On the other hand, cyclo-cross allows you to acquire more agility and better sensations on the bike. Which is also crucial for road events. Personally, I prefer cyclocross, which is more versatile because it allows you to ride on different types of terrain and take on additional challenges like mud or more technical passages like stairs and planks. »

Title holder, the Luxembourg U23 championship was almost obvious for Liv. Done since she keeps her tricolor tunic! The goal was to continue the momentum of his young career. By continuing to progress from race to race and having a good season overall. And for this she had chosen to join the SebMotoBikes CX Team in 2023 to be in the best possible conditions. So she was able to spend a full winter participating in numerous Belgian cross races, the holy land of cyclo-cross. His words reflect great satisfaction over his winter:

“Winning the national championship is always an honor. I am happy with my season. My condition has gradually improved over time, and over the last two months I have obtained rather decent results. I get along very well with the other riders on the team and with the staff. It's like a second little family. The support is great and there is no pressure if a race doesn't go as planned.

One of the objectives of this season was to obtain a few top 10s on international crosses, which I achieved several times and with almost my first international podium, in Zonnebeke (4th). This podium on an international cross will clearly be a goal next year. I was also selected for the world championships, in Tabor at the end of the season, where I fought for the top 15 for almost the entire race. Which was the initial objective, which I was barely able to tick off, I am nevertheless satisfied with my performance and my 19th place. »

His head on the handlebars since his earliest youth! It was around the age of 6 that Liv discovered cycling in a local Luxembourg club: “I immediately appreciated the competitive aspect of this sport”. From cycling school to his dream of joining WorldTour training there is only one step. Cycling has already brought him many good moments, such as the European Youth Olympic Festival in Baku 2019: “it was a pride to represent my country, everything surrounding the race was a unique experience”. Since last year, she has chosen to concentrate exclusively on cycling in the hope of making a living from this sport. Its objective is now to continue its evolution. And as usual, combining cyclo-cross and the road season!

Happy road season to you Liv.
