In the Wheel of ... Quentin Luchini - Champion of France junior mountain bike XCO

From the road to the trails, it's only a step! It's one of the great emotions of the 2023 season for the family Leader of the Leader, mountain biker Quentin Luchini wins the blue-white-red jersey in Jeumont in XCO mountain biking. It was even after a magnificent battle that the rider of the VCA Anjos KTM Team won the title in the junior category. For this new episode, we take Quentin's wheel to find out more about the young athlete from Haute-Savoie.

Style is good, with watts it's even better! And on the side of the VCA Anjos KTM Team, we have the chance to find both. This first year of collaboration was marked by the redesign of their graphic identity through a jersey with an ultra-modern style that we love. On the sporting front, there is a core group of ultra-efficient drivers who have won bouquets throughout the year both in international competitions and in the French glades. Icing on the cake, Quentin's title of champion of France last July.

18 years old, the year of majority marked by a national title and obtaining the baccalaureate for Quentin. The meeting in Jeumont was previously ticked off, with an explosive course where he could highlight his technical and physical qualities. Inevitably, we take a step back to relive through our words the emotions of her title:

« C It was a real relief, after a lot of hard work and moments of doubt caused by a mixed start to the season but it made the moment even crazier to experience and even more emotional for my team, my family and me. As for the race, it went in the most perfect way with no pressure from start to finish and just a determination to go and get this victory and this magnificent jersey. I was able to stay patient behind Julien Hémon (his main competitor of the day) and save my attack for the last lap but the adrenaline was so huge that I never felt tired. »

Direction Glasgow ! Continuing his summer form, his victory earned him a ticket to the World Championships. Where he signed a nice 14th place after starting with bib number 53 (positioning on the starting grid is essential in mountain biking). In addition, the best French rider of the day, another member of the VCA collective, Naël Rouffiac, took 5th place in his Junior Worlds. In short, a bright summer! But not everything was rosy since the beginning of his season, despite his victory on the XCC of the first round of the Coupe de France in Marseille. As he rightly puts it: « I still keep in mind that my start to the season was quite mediocre for the goals I had set. This summer's competitions allowed me to get back on track and get back to my true level! »

An impressive VCA team in the different categories but above all marked by 3 junior drivers capable of monopolizing the first places. Quentin, who joined the team last year, looks back on this environment:

« The team is well represented in the juniors also thanks to my teammates Naël Rouffiac and Paul Boichis! I think that this team has the perfect characteristics to enter the world of international races because it allows a good accompaniment and above all there is no pressure on the results and the team spirit is always focused on fun and a good atmosphere even if of course the race remains the race! In any case, these two years are my best years in a team and I hope that will continue next year. »

It is also the end of the junior chapter and the transition to the big ones on the bike but also academically with his return to school at INSA Lyon. Member for two years of the Pôle France in Besançon, he was able to benefit from tailor-made support. By finding a happy medium between studies and the sports project that he will pursue:

« I'm really going to start my double project this year by going to an engineering school, but my status as a high-level athlete will allow me to free up time to also train for next year's competitions and events. The change of category in mountain biking and the fact that I enter the integrated preparation is a real challenge for me but I think I have the mentality and the ability to give my best and succeed on both sides!

The objectives for next year are to succeed in passing a milestone in training and to succeed from the beginning of next season to play on the front of the races to have fun and make good results in the Coupe de France and the World Cup. The ideal in the longer term would be to be able to continue doing the sport I love at a high level while succeeding in my studies to feel good in my head. »

But the season isn't over yet! There are still some events in the juniors and some great races where he will be able to shine his tricolor jersey Leader de File x VCA Anjos KTM.
